#GRWM Runway Experience
February 24 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Free – $50Join Distillery Resident Imani Batts to celebrate a night of black hair, black culture, and the black experience through fashion & performance art. Shop black owned businesses & connect with people in our community. This live event will feature Imani’s newest fashion collection, music, performances, and more.
The “Get Ready With Me” Runway Collection is an ode to black hair. Black hair has been judged, tormented, and disregarded for many years. Throughout time, black people empowered ourselves by styling our hair as big and complex as our cultural identities. The “Get Ready with Me” Runway Collection is a mixed media collection including objects from the beauty supply store and secondhand garments from various thrift stores. Items such as: barrettes, beads, durags, combs, and rollers, play a huge part in the Black hair journey. Seeing the bright colors of the barrets and the loud noise of the wooden beads brings nostalgia and peace to my inner child. Each item is uniquely made to make a statement—just like black hair.
