ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Based in the heart of the Monongahela National Forest in Elkins, West Virginia, the Solar Ant Arts Collective is gaining recognition as a model for creating change in their communities. Members join from across the region working in a variety of mediums from professional artists to hobbyists. Eleven artists from the collective are highlighted to negotiate various themes in their work including environmental issues, identity, placemaking, and what it means to be Appalachian.
Featured artists include Kelly (Kiki) Alba, Aira Loren Burkhart, Corrina Bloom Burkhart, Rosalie Haizlett, Serafelle E. Hightower, Sarah Miller-Herrera, Wilhelmina McWhorter, Emily Prentice, Kathryn Prentice, Domenica Queen, and Nevada Tribble.
ABOUT THE CURATOR:
Griffin Nordstrom is a curator and multimedia artist from Morgantown, West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University, earning degrees in Art History and Sculpture, and a master’s degree in Public History at Duquesne University.
