Roots Run Deep: Panel Discussion with Curator Tara Fay & Featured Artists

Join curator Tara Fay Coleman along with artists featured in the exhibit, Roots Run Deep, as they talk about identity and hair.

About this Event

Featuring the work of 16 Black artists, stylists, and cultural producers, Roots Run Deep looks at the ways in which Black hairstyles are tied to tradition and examines the historic influence of the past on modern styling practices today. Through photography, sculpture, and mixed media works, artists demonstrate how hair is used as a medium to articulate our creativity across the diaspora. Moderated by the exhibit curator, Tara Fay Coleman, featured artists will discuss the importance of documentation, historical preservation, black hair culture, & hair as artistic medium.

Exhibiting artists include: Nakeya Brown, Jordan Coyne, Kenyatta Crisp, Nick Drain, Quinn Hunter, Mia Marshall, Dom McDuffie, Evangeline Mensah-Agyekum, Brianna Mims, Steven Montinar, Ayanna Nayo, Sharon Norwood, Mathias Rushin, Sharrell Rushin, Dominique Scaife, and Shori Sims.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale (Free – $20). All proceeds form the event support Brew House Association’s programs.
