Amanda Awanjo is a Cameroonian American researcher, historian, and artist. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Pittsburgh, pursuing a degree focused on English Literature and Critical Cultural Studies. Inspired by W.E.B Du Bois’ 1927 question, “What will people in a hundred years say of Black Americans?” her research explores the role of Black women creators in the evolution of afrofuturism throughout the 20th century. Through fellowships with Carnegie Museum of Art and the University of Pittsburgh’s University Art Gallery, her research has expanded to explorations of the visual culture surrounding Black girlhood within the twentieth century.

Kemuel Benyehudah is a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a visiting scholar at the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions. His research interests lie in Black cultural production and curation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). He has worked as a research assistant at the Mütter Museum and recently completed the Visual Arts for Coalition Equity Fellowship here in Pittsburgh. He’s writing a book exploring social justice and curation in museums. During his free time, he writes about issues in the arts as a freelance writer for the Philadelphia based art publication, The ArtBlog.

Women of Visions, Inc. (WOV) was co-founded in 1981 by a group of enterprising, African-American women, to exhibit and promote the art of black women given few opportunities to show their work. Today, through exhibition, education and other unique opportunities, the WOV organization mounts group and collaborative shows, teaches classes to people of every generation and has networked to build relationships in the arts and lay community both in and outside the city of Pittsburgh. The members of WOV represent a diverse range of lifestyles, and artistic experience; thus a rich and varied expressions of personal, social and political views are presented. Throughout 40 years, Women of Visions, Inc. has continued to nurture and support professional and emerging women artists of color, and to bring to the general public the full richness and scope of our cultural heritage.
