Lay Bare: Closing Day Celebration // Flowers for Black Beloveds

April 1, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

Flowers for Black Beloveds is an opportunity for love, joy, and community. Join us for the closing event of Lay Bare as we create bouquets, write love letters, and create mementos for the black women we appreciate, to give them their flowers while they are still here to smell them. For our artists. For our friends. For our families. For our neighbors. For our communities. This event is for both creating and sharing in love.

This event is held in collaboration with the Black Unicorn Library Project under Flowers for Black Beloved, led by artist Bekezela Mguni. In 2014, a group of community members came together to celebrate Black women and girls, and to honor ourselves as we mourned the loss of Teaira Whitehead. We continue to ask #WhatHappenedtoTeairaWhitehead because we will never forget our dear sibling nor any of the Black people impacted by gender-based violence. Visit this link to see what we shared. https://bit.ly/3glUC6w

We commit to and will continue to do the life-affirming work of giving Black folks our flowers while we are here. We will honor our beauty, dynamism, and power in all of our manifestations! This is a collaboration between the Black Unicorn Library Project and Cutting Root Farm and Apothecary. If you’d like to collaborate with us, donate flowers, volunteer to make deliveries, or support our work please email blackunicornproject@gmail.com.

This event is free to attend. Please register by clicking the Eventbrite link below.
